Dalian Library by Mohamad Ghamlouch @ 10 Design
Project: Dalian Public Library
Location: Dalian city, PRC.
Program: Reading Spaces, Book stacks, Café, Public Lectures, performance space
Scale: 50,000 m2
Status: First Prize Win, AIA award.
Concept: The design is not intended as a conventional library, instead it’s believed that with open source information systems, the library will transform into a meeting place. Thus was the idea of having multiple stacked spaces that double as performance spaces and reading area. The central vortex is a focal area for an interesting series of spaces for the community. The building section illustrates the attention for both an urban and internal connectivity. The various adjoining spaces spiral inward in celebrating how the library can become a community center for the neighborhood.
